Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) is a type of hardboard which is made from wood fibers glued under heat and pressure. MDF are appropriate for the many exterior or interior industrial applications. Drilling is one of the most common and fundamental machining processes. It is most frequently performed in material removal and is used as a preliminary step for many operations, such as reaming, tapping and boring. Because of their importance in nearly all production operations, twist drills have been the subject of numerous investigations. This article aims to study the effects of the drilling parameters such as spindle speed, feed rate, and drill diameter (input parameters) used on the prediction of surface roughness (output response) on drilling MDF composite. The experiment was carried out by varying the drilling parameters and the output response surface roughness is modelled mathematically. The adequacy of the mathematical model is analyzed statistically using Analysis Of Variance (ANOVA) which gives a high degree of correlation between the input parameters and output response. It is evident that feed rate during drilling is the most influencing factor to surface roughness.Keywords

This article solves the customer complaint of poor performance of brake in certain tractors. This failure was reported particularly in Tractor which is predominantly used for puddling application. After prolonged usage, breakage was occurring in certain area of the actuating link. In order to overcome this problem, analysis has been carried out by using finite element method along with optimization technique. To obtain the best result various link designs have been created in CATIA and optimized with an optimization tool called OptiStruct solver in Hypermesh. The stress and deflection plots of existing and modified link were compared. Then the fatigue life of the optimized model is obtained from Nastran in order to know the life of the actuating link. In the same way fatigue life of the existing and modified link were analyzed and discussed.Keywords

Self-healing polymeric materials developed in the last decade is one of the marvels in the field of material science and polymer chemistry. Self-healing Glass Fibre Reinforced Plastics (GFRP) was fabricated with the microcapsule based self-healing system which can be triggered by the catalyst, when the capsule breaks open releasing the healing agent, during crack formation. The dynamic mechanical properties of the composite were assessed to find its dependence on temperature, stress and frequency and to report the changes in stiffness and damping. The storage modulus, loss modulus and damping factor were investigated for various frequencies and temperature and discussed.Keywords

Self-healing polymeric composites are a class of functional composites which heal itself during damage. Out of the many methods of self-healing, micro-capsule based self-healing process is the proven and established method where the healing agent stored in the capsule breaks and seals up the gap after the polymerization reaction with the suitable catalyst. The incorporation of the capsule in a polymer matrix in a random fashion makes it challenging to model the composite material. This paper explains the modelling and simulation of the self-healing composite using MIDAS NFX FEA software. The effect of self-healing composition - micro-capsule size and concentration on the static mechanical properties of the composite is explored. The capsules are integrated in the polymer matrix as a representative volume element using the rule of mixtures. The classical laminate theory was used to identify the critical ply failure.Keywords
